What is a Flipkart seller?
A Flipkart seller is a business that lists and sells products on Flipkart’s marketplace through a Flipkart Seller Hub account. The seller sets price and stock, keeps GST and bank details verified, and either ships from its own warehouse through Flipkart’s logistics pickup or stores stock in Flipkart’s fulfilment centres (Fulfilled by Flipkart, FBF). Every listing’s images, content and dispatch timelines must follow Flipkart’s seller policies.
Why sell on Flipkart in 2026?
Flipkart is a price-led, deal-driven marketplace. Shoppers compare a grid of near-identical listings, open the product page and scan the image grid, the price drop and the offers before they read a single line of description. In 2026 Flipkart removed commission on every fashion product and on any product under ₹1,000 — the biggest change to seller maths in years.

How to start selling on Flipkart: 7 steps
Registration is online and quick. Most delays come later — a GSTIN that doesn’t match, a brand without approval, or images that fail quality check. Work through them in this order.
- 1
Keep your documents ready
You need a GSTIN, a PAN, an active bank account in the business name and a pickup address. Check your details on the GST portal so they match your Seller Hub entries exactly.
- 2
Register on Flipkart Seller Hub
Sign up at seller.flipkart.com with your mobile number and email, then verify GSTIN, bank account and pickup address.
- 3
Get brand approval
To list under a brand name, submit a trademark certificate or an authorisation letter from the brand owner. Some categories also need category approval or compliance certificates before listings go live.
- 4
Choose your fulfilment model
FBF or seller-fulfilled — the choice changes your fixed fee, delivery speed and exposure to dispatch penalties. Compare the two before you send stock.
- 5
Price with the 2026 fee stack
Commission may be zero, but fixed, collection, shipping and return fees still apply, with GST on each. Work out your real fee per order before you set MRP.
- 6
Shoot the full 8-image set in one session
Main image, back, side, detail, on-model, size chart, lifestyle and variants — planned together so every tile in the grid matches. Our guide to ecommerce fashion photography for Flipkart, Amazon and Myntra shows how to plan it.
- 7
List, launch and plan for sale events
Fill every attribute, group variants correctly and plan dispatch capacity before Big Billion Days, which opens on 9 October 2026 with early access from 8 October.
Flipkart product image requirements 2026
Flipkart runs a quality check on every image before a listing goes live, and it rarely says exactly why a file failed. Most rejections trace back to four things: an off-white background, a product too small in the frame, low resolution, or text and stickers on the main image.
| Rule | Main image | Other images |
|---|---|---|
| Background | Pure white #FFFFFF (RGB 255) for most categories | Any — model, lifestyle or infographic |
| Product fill | 85% of the frame or more | As the composition needs |
| Resolution | 500 × 500 px minimum; 1,000 px or more for zoom — we deliver 2,000 px | Same |
| Shape | 1:1 square for most categories; fashion galleries show portrait tiles, so keep a 3:4 master | Same as the main image |
| Image count | At least 2 per listing, up to 8 — listings that use all 8 give shoppers fewer reasons to leave | |
| Text, logos, watermarks | Not allowed, including MRP stickers and borders | Short, accurate callouts allowed |
| Accuracy | Only what the buyer receives, in true colour | Props allowed if it’s clear what’s included |
| File | JPEG preferred; PNG accepted; sRGB colour | Same |
Category-specific specs appear in the Seller Hub listing flow and take priority over this table. Compiled from Flipkart Seller Hub listing rules and quality-check patterns we see on client uploads, September 2026.
The 8-image set we plan for every Flipkart listing
This order works for most fashion and lifestyle categories. For electronics and home, swap the on-model slot for an in-use shot and the size chart for a dimensions graphic.
- 1Main imageFront view on #FFFFFF, 85% fill. This is your search thumbnail.
- 2Back viewSame pose, same light as the main image.
- 3Side or 45°Shape, fit and depth from the side.
- 4Detail close-upFabric, print, stitching or finish.
- 5Full length on modelFit and drape, head to toe.
- 6Size chartMeasured, in cm and inches — not estimated.
- 7LifestyleWorn or used in a real setting.
- 8Pack & variantsWhat’s in the box, or the colour range side by side.
- Listing videoA short fit, demo or unboxing clip where your category allows video.
Big Billion Days 2026 opens on 9 October
Early access starts on 8 October for Flipkart Plus and Black members. Image re-uploads can go back through quality check, so finish your refresh at least a week before, not the night before.
For apparel, the format decides how many slots you can fill well. Compare ghost mannequin vs model vs flat lay photography for Flipkart, or see our ghost mannequin photography, model photography in Delhi and jewellery photography work.
“Flipkart shows the whole image grid at once, so a weak back or detail shot is as visible as a weak main image. We shoot the full set in one light, check the white and the 85% fill on every file, and export square and portrait versions before anything leaves the studio.”
Flipkart Rich Product Description (A+ content) 2026
Flipkart’s version of A+ Content is the Rich Product Description, or RPD: image-led sections that sit below the key features and description — brand story blocks, feature panels and comparisons across your own range. It is generally open to brand-approved sellers and is enabled from Seller Hub or through Flipkart’s catalogue support, so check your account for access.
| Feature | Standard listing | Rich Product Description |
|---|---|---|
| Who can use it | Every seller | Brand-approved sellers |
| Format | Key features, specifications, text description | Image and text sections, banners and story blocks |
| Comparisons | Not available | Your own products side by side |
| Where it shows | Product details area | Below the description, on app and web |
| Best for | Fast listing of simple SKUs | Brands with a range, a material story or a use case to explain |
Module options vary by category and account. The RPD editor in Seller Hub shows the canvas size for each block — always export to that size.
What we deliver for RPD
- Square module images from a 2,000 px master, so each block stays sharp on large phones.
- Wide banner and story images shot with space for layout, then exported to the editor’s canvas.
- Comparison images of your own variants, shot in the same light so differences are real, not lighting.
- Copy kept in text fields, not baked into images — it stays readable and searchable.
Common reasons rich content is sent back
- Prices, discounts, “best seller” labels or time-bound offers inside images.
- Competitor brand names or comparisons with other brands.
- Claims you can’t prove, such as “No. 1” or medical results.
- Phone numbers, website links, QR codes or social handles.
- Stretched, low-resolution images, or visuals that don’t match the product sold.
Listing video and product reels on Flipkart
Where your category allows video in the product gallery, a short clip of fit, movement, texture or a working demo answers the questions still images can’t. The same footage cuts down into ads and social reels, which matters most in the weeks before a sale event.
We film listing videos in the same session as stills, so colour and styling match the gallery. See our ecommerce video production work.
Flipkart seller fees and penalties in 2026
Flipkart charges 0% commission on every product priced under ₹1,000 in any category, and since 8 July 2026, 0% commission on all fashion products at any price (Flipkart Seller Hub). Zero commission is not zero fees, though — the rest of the stack still applies to every delivered order.
- Commission — 0% on all fashion and on anything under ₹1,000; above ₹1,000 outside fashion, your category rate applies.
- Fixed fee — per item, set by selling price and your seller tier (Bronze to Platinum); lower on FBF.
- Collection fee — for processing prepaid and cash-on-delivery payments.
- Shipping fee — by weight and by local, zonal or national distance.
- Return shipping — charged on returns. True colour, true scale and a measured size chart are the cheapest way to cut it.
- GST — 18% on each fee line, which belongs in your unit cost.
New from 23 August 2026: per-order dispatch penalties
A shipment not ready by its Dispatch By Date costs ₹30. A seller cancellation, or an order auto-cancelled after three missed deadlines, costs ₹60. An order that is delayed and then cancelled costs ₹90. The penalties replace the earlier account lock after dispatch breaches. Source: Outlook Business, Aug 2026.
Check your exact rate card inside Seller Hub — rates depend on sub-category and tier, and the public rate card can change.
FBF vs seller fulfilment on Flipkart
Your fulfilment model decides who holds stock, who packs, and who carries the dispatch risk. Many sellers put their fastest movers and sale-event heroes on FBF and keep the long tail seller-fulfilled.
| Factor | Fulfilled by Flipkart (FBF) | Seller-fulfilled |
|---|---|---|
| Where stock sits | Flipkart fulfilment centre | Your warehouse |
| Picks & packs | Flipkart | You |
| Pickup & delivery | Flipkart’s network | Flipkart’s logistics picks up from you |
| Fixed fee | Lower | Higher |
| Dispatch-by-date risk | Handled by Flipkart | Yours — ₹30 to ₹90 per breach |
| Best fit for | Fast movers and Big Billion Days heroes | Long tail, bulky or made-to-order items |
Selling on more than one marketplace? Our Amazon seller hub covers Amazon’s image and A+ rules, and the Myntra seller hub covers fashion-first rules. One planned shoot can cover all three.
Growth checklist for Flipkart sellers
- Run Flipkart Ads only on listings that already convert organically.
- Refresh hero images and variant sets a week before Big Billion Days (from 9 October 2026).
- Reprice fashion SKUs after the zero-commission change — work from margin, not last season’s MRP.
- Check whether a bundle crosses ₹1,000 — outside fashion, commission returns above that price.
- Keep dispatch on time: every missed Dispatch By Date now costs ₹30 per shipment.
- Climb seller tiers — higher tiers pay lower fixed fees.
- Review return reasons monthly and fix the size chart and colour accuracy first.
